Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a self defense system and sport that has been made popular by its success in the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique.

Unlike most other martial arts, a distinct advantage of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is that it allows the participants to train together safely, in real time. This provides a much more realistic and practical self-defense exercise, which develops a great sense of trust among participants. The training atmosphere is therefore very friendly and strong relationships develop among members.
